WELCOME

All pilots must meet the requirements outlined within the CBSS Site Regulations. All pilots must be current USHPA H4/P4 pilots unless a CBSS Guide Pilot sponsors you as an H3/P3. More information on P3/H3 flying can be found in the site guide. Telegram group is here.

Please follow the instructions below on how to fill out your documents and send them in. Failure to do so will result in not flying until everything is straighten out.

Paperwork instructions

These instructions outline all the steps necessary to complete the paperwork required to fly the hang gliding and paragliding site at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. First, all pilots must meet the requirements outlined within the CBSS Site Regulations. All information pertaining to flying Crested Butte can be found on this website. All pilots must be current USHPA H4/P4 pilots unless a CBSS Guide Pilot sponsors you as an H3/P3.

Completed paperwork is composed of five parts, all digital, bundled into two PDFs [items 1-4, in order, in one PDF and item 5 (CBSS USHPA Chapter Waiver, alone) in another PDF]

CBSS Site Regulations – Signed, dated, etc..
CBSS Release of Liability (CBMR Waiver) – Signed, dated, etc..
USHPA Membership Card printed from the online portal with expiration date and pilot number (there is a specific page that must be printed, see below).
CORSAR Card with name and expiration date.
CBSS USHPA Chapter Waiver (alone in separate PDF)

Read the site regulations in full. If you meet all of the requirements fill in your USHPA# and expiration date, Name, Signature and date.

CBSS Release of Liability

Click this link to download the CBSS Release of Liability.
Read the site release of liability in full. Fill out the form with your printed name, signature, date, and emergency contact information.

USHPA Membership Card

Your membership card must be downloaded from the USHPA website. This is the only way to have a card that includes your rating and membership expiration date. To do this:

Go to ushpa.org
Click “Sign In” in the upper right-hand corner.
Once signed in click “My Info”.
Then click “Membership Card”.
Once viewing the membership card click “Download PDF”.

CORSAR Card

A Colorado Search and Rescue Fund, CORSAR, car can be obtained two ways. Either in person at a local angler/sporting shop or from the link below. The card costs $3/year.

CORSAR Cards can be obtained in person at Dragonfly Anglers in Crested Butte or Gene Taylors in Gunnison. This card must then be scanned and included in your packet.
Go to this website and either buy a 1 year or 5 year card.

CBSS USHPA Chapter Waiver

Read the site CBSS USHPA Chapter Waiver in full. Fill out the form with your printed name, signature, date, and USHPA number.

Completing Your Packet

The CBSS Site Regulations, CBSS Release of Liability, USHPA Membership Card and CORSAR card shall be compiled into one PDF in the order listed above. Here’s a visual sample for your reference.
The CBSS USHPA Chapter Waiver shall be sent as a separate document.
Your completed paperwork should be emailed to Dave Van Wyke and Bill Graf (CBSS President and Vice President) at and or your CBSS Guide Pilot sponsor no later than 24 hours before you plan to fly. If incomplete paperwork is received you need to fix the errors within 24 hours of your planned flying, or you may not be able to fly.
DO NOT send your paperwork to anyone at the ski area.
After completing your paperwork you must pay your membership fee via cash (to CBSS Club Officer) or Venmo to @Ben-Eaton-22 (CBSS Treasurer). Current membership dues – $120 annual or $60 monthly.
